Professor

My film studies professor mentioned Into the Void in lecture today. Can university get any better?

Anonymous asked: you sound drunk!

University is, as university does.

But when we sit together, close,” said Bernard, “we melt into each other with phrases. We are edged with mist. We make an unsubstantial territory.

—Virginia Woolf

We need books to affect us like a disaster, that grieve us deeply, like the death of someone we loved more than ourselves, like being banished into forests far from everyone, like a suicide. A book must be the axe for the frozen sea inside us.

Anonymous asked: As I will be going into my second year at McGill this fall, let me welcome you (albeit early) to the community! Hopefully Minerva didn't make you want to punch a wall. Next year you'll get to register earlier, and it will be much less stressful. Campus is beautiful and the university is a wonderful place to learn and grow. Profs are generally great and so are the opportunities to learn outside of class. Also, make sure to take advantage of the city. I stumbled upon your blog and, from the looks of it, it seems like you'll be a wonderful addition to this year's freshman class. Good luck Nigel!

Thank you for the welcome! I am definitely looking forward to all that Montreal and McGill have to offer.
